Questions & Answers

What can I expect? Which game should I play? How long do I have to calculate? In our FAQs you will find an answer to (almost) all questions.

  • What are the AdventureRooms Technorama?

The AdventureRooms® offer an escape game – also called Escape Room, Escape Game or Live Escape – for groups. It is about a team escaping by cunning and skill from a room with closed doors within a set time. Originally developed in Switzerland by a physics teacher, there are now countless rooms in Switzerland and around the world.
The Swiss Science Center Technorama in Winterthur is the only science center in Switzerland and at the same time one of the most popular tourist attractions. It enables people to experience hundreds of natural and technological phenomena. At countless experimental stations, visitors have a hands-on opportunity to experience and manipulate natural phenomena with all their senses in order to «comprehend» the world in both senses of the word.
AdventureRooms Technorama is a unique cooperation between AdventureRooms GmbH and a Science Center, the only one of its kind in the world. The two games «SPEKTRUM» & «KONTINUUM» offer the usual adrenaline kick with puzzles based on scientific and technological phenomena. The games were buit by the experienced Technorama team, so that the rooms are characterized by subtlety of detail and high quality.

  • How many rooms/games are there at the AdventureRooms Technorama?

We have two games: Game 1 was opened in 2017 and is called SPEKTRUM. Game 2 was opened in 2018 and is called KONTINUUM.
You’ve already played both? Unfortunately there are no more games planned at the moment. But don’t despair! There are countless AdventureRooms all over Switzerland – and they are all different!

  • Which game should I choose?

In general, both games are suitable for everyone.
    However:

only 20% of all groups complete SPEKTRUM successfully – that’s why we recommend this game mainly to those who are looking for a real challenge.

KONTINUUM is a bit «easier» – that’s why we recommend this game particularly to AdventureRoom «Newbies» and families.

  • How long does the game take?

For a standard game you have to allow about 1.5 hours. The net playing time is 60 minutes, plus 15 minutes for the introduction and 15 minutes for debriefing & photo.
A duel with two teams consists of two halves of 30 min each, a half-time break of about 15 min plus an introduction and a debriefing & photo session, each of which takes about 15 min.
This means that in a duel a total of 60 minutes are also played and all players see all the rooms. Usually the duel is finished after about 2 hours.

  • What occasions are the AdventureRooms Technorama suitable for?

For an adventure in the AdventureRooms Technorama there is no need for a special occasion!
Just grab a few friends or your family and get to know each other from a completely different side!
But of course our games are also especially suitable for birthday parties, bachelor parties, team events and school classes because of their special character.

  • Can I combine admission to the AdventureRooms Technorama with admission to the Technorama?

Yes, of course that is a possibility. However, it only applies if the visit to the Technorama and the game take place on the same day. You have the following options:

Try your luck and see if there are any slots available on the day when you visit the Technorama. Especially on weekdays, you can sometimes be lucky! Since your preferred time is often no longer available with this variant (left-over slots), you pay the reduced admission fee of CHF 17.00 for the game in the AdventureRooms plus the regular entrance fee to the Technorama (CHF 32.00, with discounts for children, students, AHV, etc.).

If you want to be on the safe side, you can book your slot at your preferred time here on the site. On the day of your booking you can report to the Technorama main cash desk with your booking confirmation. You then pay the regular admission price for the AdventureRooms Technorama (38.- per person), while admission to the Technorama will be CHF 17.00 per person.

Or you can call the day before or before your visit to inquire about free slots (Tel. (052 244 08 44) and reserve them in advance if necessary. You also pay the regular admission price for the AdventureRooms Technorama (38.- per person), admission to the Technorama will then be CHF 17 per person.

  • Are the rooms dangerous?

The rooms are in no way dangerous and no physical exertion (running, climbing etc.) is required. If the rules announced during the introduction to the game are followed, our rooms should be no more dangerous than a visit to a restaurant. Of course, stumbling or bumping into people is possible anywhere at any time, so participation is always at your own risk.

Emergency exits and safety: all our rooms are equipped with emergency exits. It is therefore possible to leave the game anytime and anywhere. In addition, a game leader observes the game on camera and can intervene at any time if something should happen.

  • Is it creepy? Will I be scared?

Our rooms do not contain any horror or creepy elements. We’re not anxious to scare, but there are a few «surprise elements». If you’re worried about this, talk to your game master before the game, he’ll be happy to answer your questions and can take your fears into account during the game (e.g. turn music down a bit).

The rooms are neither particularly small nor dark. Each room can be left at any time by an emergency exit.

We’ve had some players with claustrophobia and so far we’ve only received positive feedback. If you’re still worried, talk to your game master before the game, he’ll be happy to explain our safety measures and try to meet your needs.

  • Is the course only available in German?

The introduction and explanations of the game are available in English, French, and – on request – in Italian. No language is required for the game itself, possible references are made using images or brief instructions in English.

  • Where exactly are the AdventureRooms Technorama located?

The game rooms are located in the Technorama Winterthur building on the 2nd floor. The entrance is not via the main entrance of the Technorama, but via the side entrance on the left hand side. The path between the stream and the bicycle stands takes you to the entrance. Please walk up the stairs inside the «Grid» to the top, where the game master will pick you up at the agreed time. You can also stow your personal belongings in front of the game rooms.

If you cannot manage the staircase, you can enter the AdventureRooms through the main entrance. If you book outside Technorama’s opening hours (daily 10 am – 5 pm), please send us an e-mail with brief information. The game master will pick you up at the administrative entrance (to the right of the main entrance) and accompany you to the lift.

  • Can I park at the AdventureRooms Technorama?

Parking is free 24 hours a day on the Technorama parking lot.
Outside Technorama’s opening hours, the barrier may be down. In this case you can park your car in the bus parking lot.

It is always possible to leave the parking area, simply drive close up to the barrier and wait until it is completely open.

  • What age groups are the AdventureRooms Technorama suitable for?

We recommend our rooms from the age of 12 at the youngest. Young people under the age of 16 must play accompanied by an adult! For school classes we recommend 2 accompanying adults per duel, so that one adult plays in each group.
We also recommend that children between the ages of 12 and 15 play accompanied by adults who have had experience with Escape Rooms. There may always be places where children can «get stuck», which can lead to a lot of frustration.
Experience has shown that KONTINUUM is better suited for children than SPEKTRUM.
The course is not suitable for younger children due to the noise level, light effects and content. Please also understand that we cannot offer a child care service, as our supervisors are busy during the game. Of course, an adult can wait with the child in the reception area until the game is over.

  • Can people with walking, sight or hearing difficulties also participate?

This is basically possible. Access to the AdventureRooms is normally via the stairs at the side entrance on the north side of the Technorama. People with walking difficulties can use the lift in the main Technorama building. It is best to contact the Technorama information desk with your group (only possible during opening hours between 10 am and 5 pm). If you have booked the course outside these hours, please send us an email using the contact form after your booking and wait in front of the main entrance of the Technorama at the agreed time, from where you will be picked up by your game master.
Important: for structural reasons there are 15cm high door edges in the rooms themselves, over which wheelchairs would have to be lifted by the other players. Electric wheelchairs, which are very heavy and usually wider than normal wheelchairs, can unfortunately not pass the obstacle at the doors. We ask for your understanding.

Visually or hearing impaired people can theoretically participate if at least one person with no disability is present. However, we have very little experience with this to date.
Players who have a hearing aid should inform the game master before the start of the game. It can get quite loud during the game. In such cases we try to turn the music down.
For people suffering from red-green vision impairment, there may be limitations in the «SPECTRUM» room. This game is generally very visually oriented, so we recommend «KONTINUUM» for visually impaired people.

  • Are there any other restrictions?

The game masters may exclude intoxicated persons from the game.
Dogs are generally not allowed in the Technorama.
It is not possible to provide care for babies: our game masters must be able to concentrate on the game.

  • Can we get something to eat nearby?

The restaurant in the Technorama is happy to welcome you daily from 10.30 am – 3 pm (hot food until 2.30 pm).
Outside these opening hours there is the Kulturbeizli Bahnhöfli (approx. 10 min. walk) nearby. You can reach the lively old town of Winterthur by public transport in about 15 minutes (bus 1 or 5).

  • How much does it cost?

Prices are CHF 38.– per person. More detailed information can be found here. The actual price will be displayed as soon as you have selected a slot. The price per person is indicated.

  • How can I pay?

The balance is paid in cash or by EC/Maestro/credit card at the end of the game. Payment by Postcard is currently not possible.

A combined ticket is paid for directly at the Technorama cash desk, where Postcard is also available.

  • I have a voucher. What do I have to do?

Please note that we only accept vouchers for AdventureRooms Technorama. Unfortunately we cannot accept vouchers from other AdventureRooms.
The best way is to book your slot using our booking tool. Any remaining credit will of course be refunded after the game. Alternatively you can contact us via contact form or by phone.

  • Should we be there at the booked time or preferably a little earlier?

In the breaks between the games we have to rebuild the course and cannot devote ourselves to the next group at that time. In addition, our entrance is unfortunately not particularly protected from the weather, so it is quite sufficient for you to arrive in front of the entrance 3 – 5 minutes before the booked time.

BUT: please try not to be late! The time between two groups is relatively short, so we may have to shorten your countdown time of 60 minutes if you are late by 10 minutes or more, so that the next group can start on time.

  • Can I just drop by on chance?

Games can only be booked online until 4 p.m. the day before, after which they are no longer available.
Between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. you can also call 052 244 08 44 to find out if there are any free slots available. Only the slots between 11.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. can be booked on the day itself. These can also be booked on site at the Technorama main cash desk.

  • Can I visit the AdventureRooms Technorama independently of the Technorama?

Sure. Although we are in the Technorama in Winterthur, we have our own entrance and opening hours (daily 10 am – 10.45 pm).
But you can have combined admission to both venues, more information here!

  • How many people can play?

The standard game in both rooms is designed for a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 6 people. The duel variant is suitable for 6 – 12 persons.

  • There are only two of us. Can we still play?

The games are designed for at least three people. For two, some tasks are almost impossible and we do not recommend it.
If, for example, you have reserved a game for three people and someone is sick, or you want to play with two people, we don’t want to stand in your way. Unfortunately we have to charge the price for 3 people.

  • The number of participants has changed after booking. What should we do?

As long as the maximum number of participants (standard: 6 , duel: 12) is not exceeded, this is not a problem, so please DO NOT write us an email. Just let us know at your reception.
Please note that at least 3 people should play.

  • What dates are still available and how can I book them?

You can select the game here and click on «Book». Then the calendar will be displayed, with the free slots.
Bookings can be made up to 4pm on the day before the visit, after that the next day is no longer shown in the calendar. Days that are already fully booked are not shown in the booking calendar either.

  • I have to cancel my appointment …

That’s too bad…! Unfortunately we have to charge the full amount for cancellations at short notice or no-shows. If you cancel in time (48 h before the booked time), you can postpone the booking once to another time. If this is not possible, we will have to send you an invoice for the amount due.

  • Can I take photos or shoot a video as a memento during the game?

No. For copyright reasons it is not allowed to take photos or make video recordings during the game! The game master asks you to hand over your smartphone for the duration of the game before the game starts.

  • Can we take home pictures or videos of our adventure?

After the course we will gladly take a cool group picture of you and publish it (with your permission) on our Facebook page and on Instagram. There you can download it. We upload the photos about once a week, so you might have to wait a bit until your photo appears on Facebook.
