Dialog in the Vase

Floor 1 | Mindscapes
Here, two basic elements of perception vie for your attention. On the one hand, we prefer objects to their background (in this case the vase). Secondly, our brain is incredibly eager to see faces (in this case the background). However, our perceptual apparatus is apparently not capable of perceiving both at the same time, which is why we are always jumping back and forth between one "interpretation" and the other. A special feature of this vase: by turning the "vase", the two "faces" seem to talk to each other, which automatically draws our attention to the faces! A side light projects the rotating vase onto a screen so that visitors can see the shadows of the vase or the talking faces from afar.
