Motion Detection
Floor 2 | Light and Vision
An object can be moved slowly out of the field of vision with a turning wheel. If it has just disappeared from view, it can still be made visible again by moving the object slightly! We only have a few receptor cells at the edge of the retina, but if they report a movement, the brain classifies this information as very important - it could be a lurking sabre-toothed tiger. Or in our time, perhaps another danger like a car.
