Can something be hot and cold at the same time? We have no sensory experience for that and our temperature receptors give us crazy feedback! In this copper coil, one left third is hot, the other cold. The middle part seems to be insanely hot (or cold?) when touched with the whole palm of the hand. When touched individually, one notices that warm and cold windings alternate in a small space.
